PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy is a master’s degree program in the area of medical and health sciences, with an educational program of 5 years (single Master’s degree) and it ends with a diploma (Master’s degree). As part of their education, students will learn how to diagnose diseases of the musculoskeletal system and how to take preventive health measures. In addition, they will learn how to carry out physiotherapy treatments and learn various massage techniques. Graduates of physiotherapy are prepared to work in all kinds of hospital facilities, public and non-public health care institutions that deal with rehabilitation and treatment using modern physiotherapy methods (e.g. teaching hospitals, spas and sanatoriums, rehabilitation facilities, SPA clinics, sports and medical clinics, sports clubs). A graduate of Master’s degree in Physiotherapy has the opportunity to take the National Physiotherapy Examination.

Specializations
Sports physiotherapy is a rapidly growing specialty in the field of rehabilitation, and physiotherapists are increasingly involved in the management of various problems of athletes. A graduate of the indicated specialty will be prepared to provide a physiotherapeutic treatment for people who practice sports.
Graduates will be able to:
- undertake activities to promote healthy lifestyles at different levels and design a preventive program for athletes taking into account gender, health status and conditions of the athlete and their physical activity,
- select the form of physical activity and implement sports, recreational, health activities in terms of human developmental needs,
- carry out therapy and instruction on the athlete’s use of the roller,
- design medical trainings, including a variety of exercises, adapt individual exercises to the needs of exercisers, select appropriate instruments and utensils for movement exercises, and gradate the difficulty of the exercises performed,
- plan, select and perform treatments using special physiotherapy methods – kinesiology taping.
Graduates will have knowledge on:
- shaping, maintaining and restoring the fitness and efficiency of athletes, lost or reduced due to various diseases or injuries, as well as the principles of health promotion – at an advanced level,
- distribution, nutritional role, safety and effectiveness of nutrition supplements,
- principles, forms, means and methods of training, as well as factors that determine the development of recreational and competitive sports,
- Therapeutic properties of a given therapy, differences between pozoimetric muscle relaxation (PIR), static stretching, dynamic stretching,
- indications and contraindications for the application of treatments in the field of physical therapy, balneoclimatology and biological regeneration, including therapies using the water environment,
- indications and contraindications for the use of special methods of physiotherapy – kinesiology taping.
Unfortunately, the problem of movement deficits and aging is steadily increasing. Consequently, a new trend has emerged in physiotherapy – physiotherapy in geriatrics. Its goal is to improve and facilitate the functioning of the elderly in society. The graduate of the indicated specialty will be prepared to conduct physiotherapy for the elderly.
Graduates will be able to:
- make observations, interpret the phenomena, identify the problems of aging society, analyze their relationship with the activities of universities of the third age, senior clubs, associations, voluntary work,
- use basic theoretical concepts (structural functionalism, symbolic interactionism, critical gerontology, postmodernism) to analyze, interpret, and design strategies for pedagogical activities aimed at seniors,
- generate solutions to specific problems faced by the elderly, predict the effects of planned physiotherapeutic measures,
- analyze and evaluate the functioning of the social benefit system,
- plan cooperation with local government social policy institutions with the non-governmental sector in the implementation of social support activities,
- select a variety of age-appropriate physiotherapy methods including the use of an aquatic environment or in a home setting,
- initiate and implement nutrition education for the senior patient when dealing with selected disease conditions.
Graduates will have knowledge on:
- the types of ties seniors have with society on a micro (family, neighborhood, peer group) and macro (neighborhood, city, state) scale and the regularities that govern them,
- types of social assistance, the main tasks of social assistance and its application to the selected disability of an elderly person,
- technical solutions to support the therapy used in the rehabilitation of cognitive processes of the elderly,
- forms of therapeutic activities for the elderly including the use of the aquatic environment,
- forms of therapeutic activities for the elderly including the use of the aquatic environment.
